Matt Epp is an internationally recognized, award-winning singer-songwriter who has spent more than 20 years writing, recording, performing and building a life around songs.
His career has taken him across Canada, Europe, and around the world, releasing multiple albums and collaborating with artists including Serena Ryder, Ron Sexsmith, Eliza Gilkyson, and Amelia Curran. His songs have reached the top of Canadian radio charts, including a #1 that earned him a SOCAN No. 1 Song Award, while another spent 12 weeks in CBC Radio 2’s Top 20. His songwriting has also earned international recognition, including the Grand Prize in the prestigious International Songwriting Competition, selected from thousands of entries from around the world.
But Winter Songbook isn’t about learning how to write like Matt. It’s about having an experienced songwriter in the room who can help you find your way into a song. Good thing Matt also has years of experience leading songwriting workshops for all ages and experience levels.
Over the weekend, Matt will lead workshops and sessions, share some of the tools and practices he’s gathered over a lifetime of writing, and spend one-on-one time with participants through private Song Doctor sessions. There’ll also be plenty of informal conversation, playing, listening and creating together - the kind of learning that happens naturally when a small group of people spends a whole weekend making things.
Whether you’ve been writing songs for years, haven’t written one in a very long time, or have always wondered if you could, Matt brings the experience of a professional songwriter without the expectation that you need to arrive as one.
